The wafer is a very thin, flat piece of silicon. This section is polished and varnished to a smooth surface. Next, a very special machine known as a lithography tool places patterns on the wafer. These patterns will form the tiny circuits that allow our electronic devices to function.

Special machines test the wafer’s strength, thickness and conductivity. This is to ensure that only the excellent wafers come out of this stage of manufacturing.
